Techniques Classes Offered at Sheep Street

Sweater Workshop: This class is designed for those advanced-beginner or intermediate knitters who want to gain both confidence and practical techniques to knit a sweater design that is both fun to knit AND fits the intended body! We will spend the first four sessions of the class learning 30 to 40 basic skills by knitting a sampler from Jacqueline Fee's The Sweater Workshop. In the last two sessions we will plan the sweater of your choice and get you started toward real "knitting freedom" The cost is $50.00. Taught by Nancy de Caprariis.

Note: this is a 5 week class, but it is not a lot of knitting - so don't be intimidated.

Five Saturdays, 1:30 - 3:30, June 7, 14, 28, July 12, 26

Two Color Knitting: This class will open horizons to all the varying "two-color" techniques used in Norwegian and Fair Isle garments. Students will learn how to read charts, adjust pattern repeats for sizing, and develop techniques for both stranding and interweaving the carried yarn. This is a 3-session class in which we will make two hats working from Dale of Norway patterns. (Students who do not have current proficiency in carrying yarn in both hands must come in a couple of weeks prior to the class, so we can get you going on that skill - we have an easy, sure-fire way to train your "other" hand). The cost is $25.00 plus materials. Taught by Nancy
de Caprariis

Two Saturdays, 1:30 - 3:30, July 5, 19

Repairing Mistakes: This class is designed to help you take the leap into Knitting Freedom! We will start with simple dropped stitches, then fix cables crossed the wrong way, correct a pattern mistake "way down" in the knitting, and talk about possibilities for garments that end up the wrong size. Get your HOMEWORK sheet when you sign up and feel free to bring in those "raindrops" (puddles?, major storms?) with you!. The cost is $15.00. Taught by Nancy de Caprariis.

One Saturday, 1:30 - 4:00, May 10

Finishing Class: Learn how to finish (sew together) a garment with attractive-looking seams that almost disappear. Using techniques from The I hate to Finish Sweaters Finishing Book, students always comment on how straight-forward and easy finishing can be. Class meets on Saturday afternoon. We will cover seaming in several different orientations. Pre-class homework is required for this class!. The cost is $15.00. Taught by Nancy de Caprariis

One Saturay, 10:30 - 12:30, July 19

Mitered Heart Sachet: This is just a fun small project that will be a delightful item to either own or share as a special gift. The end of summer will be a great time to stuff the sachets with dried flowers, and if you haven't done mitered squares previously, this is a good chance to learn the mitering technique. Two sessions, the cost is $25.00. Taught by Nancy de Caprariis.

Two Saturdays, 1:30 - 3:30, Aug 9, 30

Go Circular: We have had lots of folks ask how to take a "flat" pattern and convert it to knitting in the round, so this class is it! This won't solve all the knitting problems of the world, and there will be homework between sessions, but we should have fun and learn something at the same time. The cost is $25.00. Taught by Nancy de Caprariis

Two Sundays, 1:30 - 3:30, June 22, 29

Go Felt a Fish: Yep, you read that right - we're making felted fish! Many folks have oohed and aahed over Mary Seger's school of fish hanging over the teaching table. Mary is going to share her ideas and tips to help you design your own fish. So hang up your "going fishing" sign and join us. Three 2-hour classes, including a felting session. The cost is $35.00 plus materials. (Note: if you have never knitted with 2 colors in one row, you should take the Two-Color class prior to this one - it will make your life easier!)

Three Saturdays, 1:30 - 3:30, Aug 2, 23, Sept. 13

Christmas Fish: Speaking of fish, we are doing a delightful new class for a different take on the traditional Christmas stocking. A whole string of these on the mantle will look great and make you smile every time you se them! This is 2-color knitting-in-the-round, with some shaping, so if you haven't knitted with these techniques yet, we will help you get comfortable with them. Come in and see our model. The cost is $35.00. Taught by Nancy de Caprariis

Three Sundays, 1:30 - 3:30, June 8, 15, July 6
