Spinning Classes at Sheep Street

 

Spinning: We provide instruction in the use of drop spindles and spinning wheels.


If you are having spinning problems or have questions, feel free to drop in; there is
no need to wait for a formal class.

 

Introduction to Spinning: This is an introduction to the oldest way of creating yarns. We will explore spinning history, cover fiber choices and preparation, drop spindle spinning, and lastly, we will look at the different types of spinning wheels, and give students time to try the various styles.  Students may bring a spindle or purchase one here.

A 3-session class, the $50.00 cost includes a bag of basic fibers. Taught by Tim Ackerman

Carding: Basics and Beyond:  This class is designed to show you haw to do basic carding with hand cards, for both woolen and worsted spinning, and also how to do blending of fibers and/or colors with a drum carder.  Students must bring their own cards or purchase them here.  We will provide the fibers and use of the drum carder.  The cost is $35.00.  Taught by Tim Ackerman.   <

Hand Painted Yarn: Here is your chance to learn how easy and fun it is to hand paint your own yarn in the colors you prefer! Students MUST sign up early and pick out their yarn weight and quantity PRIOR to each session so we can pre-soak the fiber. The $30.00 class fee includes the dyes. Classes limited to three students, so sign up early.  Taught by Nancy de Caprariis.

Silk Fusion:  Here's your chance to make something unique, special, and beautiful with silk without knitting, spinning or weaving!  (It's magic...).  We'll show you how to make a gorgeous fabric for book covers, evening bags, special gift boxes or whatever you can think up with minimal effort.  The $30.00 cost of the class includes the silk.  Taught by Nancy de Caprariis.

Private Lessons:  For those of you ready to learn a special technique of simply brush up on long
unused skills, please call to arrange a time. Private lesson cost is $25.00 for 2 hours plus the cost of fiber.
