Spinning Classes at Sheep Street

Spinning: We offer classes in the use of the drop spindle and
spinning wheels. Anyone who buys a wheel from us gets at least two
free lessons in its use. In addition, ask about other incentives that we
offer our customers.

If you are having spinning problems or have questions, feel free
to drop in; there is no need to wait for a formal class.

Introduction to Spinning: This is an introduction to the oldest way of creating yarns. We will explore spinning history, cover fiber choices and preparation, spindle spinning, and lastly, we will look at the different types of spinning wheels, and give students time to try the various styles. A 3-session class, students may bring a spindle or purchase one here. The $50.00 cost includes a bag of basic fibers. Students may bring a spindle or purchase one at Sheep Street. Students are encouraged to buy a whole fleece, but at least 2 pounds are needed for the class. Taught by Tim Ackerman. The cost is $25.00 plus fleece.

Hand Spindle Spinning: Prior to about 500 years ago, all spinning was done on a drop spindle of some type; it was part of virtually all cultures. This class is both for those who have never tried spindles and for those who have moved on to wheels and just need to dust off their spindles. Come learn how much fun it can be to always have a portable spinning project with you. The $35.00 cost includes fibers. You will need to purchase a spindle if you don't have one. Taught by Amiee Dewar.
